Asher’s Special Assignment

Growing up in a family of 16 people my parents had to get creative when it came to making sure we all had a part to play in Family Home Evening. One thing they did was the creation of the “Special Assignment”
As a child I loved having the special assignment. It was kind of like the “Your choice” of Family night parts. It could be almost anything; the sharing of a favorite scripture, reading a short story you love, playing an instrument or sing a song, telling of an experience you had that day and what you learned from it. Sometime we even would treat it like a “show and tell.” It was just a way to let the family know you as an individual a little better.
Even though there are not nearly so many of us and we have to double up parts it is a FHE tradition I have continued with my kids.
Last night it was Asher’s turn for the special assignment. He had us all walk up to the Hyde school park and showed us his fishing skill with no rod, a paperclip for a hook and bread as bate. I have to say I was impressed.
(no fish were harmed in this special assignment. The paperclip did not actually hook into their flesh and Asher would speak kindly to them and then toss them back.)
